Berta’s journey
to be followed by a workshop open to all
It often happens that a place, before being experienced is first imagined, and that journeys begin well before reaching their destination. Berta lives in the mountains but the events of life lead her to the sea, which she has dreamt of and come to know only through the accounts of those around her and the illustrations she sees on newspapers.
From being a mythical and fantastic element, capable of arousing fear and concern, the sea becomes a place of amazement, wonder, joy and melancholy, allowing her to experience all those emotions common to humans and shared with every natural element.
Berta’s journey sums up the itineraries of those who, in the early 20th century and still today, left their homes and native homelands in search of a more prosperous future. The story unfolds through an account of the everyday life of a courageous young woman, of the universality of human emotions and of a world in continuous and irreversible change.
