A finalist in Progetto Cantiere 2024, premiered last October at the Incanti International Festival in Turin, the show uses simple, everyday objects to address highly relevant contemporary issues.

Inspired by the title of Magritte’s famous painting “Ceci n’est pas une pipe” (This is not a pipe), the main character on stage tells a story where smoking is the common thread of tales centred around pipes, travellers, migrations, and love stories.

CrepaMuro Teatro‘s intention in creating the play was to offer a sharp, ironic and political outlook on some of the world’s current issues: migration and the condition of migrants, the role of women in disadvantaged contexts, power relations among those at the bottom of the social hierarchy, without neglecting the dynamics of power that can be triggered within a romantic relationship.

Some of the ideas were inspired by the very place where the company was preparing the show. Rehearsals were held in the large attic of a multi-storey building where migrants and vulnerable people live together, each with their own problems: the pipes tell their stories.
