Gora
LUTKOVNO GLEDALIŠČE
LJUBLJANA (Italy/Slovenia)
In Slovenian and Italian
At the heart of the new production Gora is the legend of the founding of Gorizia and Nova Gorica. The main character in the story is the giant Gora, who turns into a hill and
becomes a vehicle for discussing borderlines, both real and invisible.
The show, which is multi-lingual and is presented in twin versions, fits perfectly into the
borderless setting of the European Capital of Culture, so much so that in 2024 it won the “GO! 2025 Small Projects Fund” competition managed by GECT GO and financed by the INTERREG VI-A ITALY-SLOVENIA 2021/2027 Programme.
Gora was created through a cross-border residency that saw Italian and Slovenian
puppeteers working together. The uniqueness of this new production lies in the fact that, despite initially working together, the two companies created a double production and therefore two identical shows, one performed by Italian actors and the other by Slovenian actors, involving linguistic and cultural cross-references.
As a result, two identical sets were built, as were the puppets and costumes, so that both shows could tour simultaneously in Italy and Slovenia, in line with the “borderless” concept promoted by Gorizia – Nova Gorica Capital of Culture 2025.

The Lutkovno Gledališče Ljubljana (LGL) is Slovenia’s leading puppet theatre,
presenting shows for children, young people and adults, based on the centuries-old
tradition of puppetry, a heritage it preserves thanks to the Puppet Museum housed in
Ljubljana Castle.
Every two years, it organises the LUTKE International Puppet Festival and promotes a
programme for emerging artists called BiTeater, which includes experimental productions in which the language of puppets is enriched by other artistic registers.
