atalanta
Rejected by her father for being a girl, the newborn Atalanta is abandoned in the woods and raised first by a bear and then by Artemis, the goddess of hunting. Having become a fierce and formidable huntress, she vows never to live among men again, but the death of a friend changes her mind: her desire for revenge leads her to incredible adventures, to take part in deeds and battles that are for males only, and to get to know and understand men and herself.
Stefano Paradisi, on stage with visual artist Massimo Racozzi and musician and author Claudio Parrino, dramaturgically adapts Gianni Rodari’s rewriting of the famous myth to recount in words, images and music the life of a teenager alone in a male world, human and divine, unique and yet like so many others, unique and universal: a timeless heroine and a modern-day brave maid, the absolute mistress of her own life. The relevance of Rodari’s character shines through in all of Atalanta’s actions, a young woman who runs for herself, who does not wait to be saved, but rather acts and chooses.
And after proving her worth, she is now a woman who returns home, reconciles with her father and decides that, if she must marry, she will do so on her own terms.

The performance is part of the Art&Puppets Project; an initiative designed to promote a new, “borderless” approach to puppetry and live contemporary art. It is specifically aimed at the cross-border region of Gorizia and Nova Gorica.
The Art&Puppets (ARTPUP) project is funded by the European Union through the GO! 2025 Small Project Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 Programme, managed by the EGTC GO.
Learn more about the project
Since its foundation in 1994, the CTA – Centro Teatro Animazione e Figure (Centre for Puppetry and Animation) in Gorizia has pursued the goal of promoting puppetry in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region through the organisation of festivals, exhibitions, special projects, educational projects for schools, and productions of shows for both children and adults.
Over the years, the CTA has established a strong artistic core committed to breaking with tradition by embracing contemporary languages and experimenting with new approaches to other artistic disciplines. Each production can therefore be considered a “path of research” into the relationship between actor, figures (images, objects, puppets, videos, shadows, etc.), music and words, which tends towards the creation of a “dramatic score” in which all the languages used have the same communicative potential.
