There are several versions of the love story between Alcyone, daughter of Aeolus, king of the winds, and Ceice, son of Eosphorus.
This reinterpretation, seeking to capture the story’s most poetic and evocative imagery, draws upon the beautiful account handed down to us by Ovid in his Metamorphoses.
It is the delicate and poignant tale of a love that endures, in a different form, even after death, recurring each year for seven days before and seven days after the winter solstice, the serene days of calm weather commonly referred to as ‘the days of Alcyone’.

Storie di mare is the new project by CTA Gorizia that weaves together figure theatre, the sea, and myth. Four new family-friendly productions, inspired by the finest traditional tales, designed specifically for the spaces of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology of the Upper Adriatic in Grado, and also presented as part of the Alpe Adria Puppet Festival showcase.
Since its establishment in 1994, CTA – Centro Teatro Animazione e Figure di Gorizia has aimed to promote puppet and figure theatre in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. It does this through organizing festivals, events, special projects, school training programs, and producing shows for both children and adults.
Over the years, CTA has built a stable artistic ensemble dedicated to moving beyond traditional approaches by embracing contemporary creative languages and experimenting with connections to other artistic disciplines. Therefore, each production can be considered a ‘research journey’ into the relationship between the actor, figures (images, objects, puppets, videos, shadows, etc.), music, and the spoken word—aiming to create a ‘dramaturgical score’ where every language used carries equal communicative potential.
