Lidia Poët
“The legal profession is an office that can only be practised by males, and in which females must not interfere”
(excerpt from the ruling of the Court of Appeal of Turin in 1883)
Lidia Poët fought against this mentality throughout her life.
Through a narration performance with figures, the troubled legal case of Lidia (now made famous by a television series) is recounted. From as early as the second half o the 19th century, she fought to see women’s right to enrol in the Bar Association affirmed.
Only at the age of sixty-five will Lidia be the first woman in Italy to be able to achieve this, becoming at the same time a symbol of the struggle for the recognition of women’s rights, and, over the course of her life, also standing up for prisoners and underage people.
The images, characters and settings described are recreated in a sort a ‘doll’s house’, where short scenes and dialogues alternate, recounting the protagonist’s present and past, combined with reflections on contemporary life.

The Art&Puppets (ARTPUP) project is funded by the European Union through the GO! 2025 Small Project Fund of the Interreg VI-A Italy-Slovenia 2021-2027 Programme, managed by the EGTC GO.
