The second bill for Compagnia Granteatrino from Bari at Alpe Adria Puppet Festival will be “La capra ballerina” (“The dancing goat”), a play that, highlighting the motto “United we stand, divided we fall”, reminds us how much hospitality is a precious resource.
Through the years the Company has worked with the aim of rescuing and promoting the popular Puppet Theatre heritage, working side by side with well established scenographers, authors, illustrators, and sculptors.
First among everyone, the scenographer and illustrator Emanuele Luzzati, with whom Granteatrino has established a deep connection through the character Pulcinella. Luzzati himself created the Company’s logo, a stylised Pulcinella standing in front of a tiny trullo. The Genoese maestro is also the author of the stage sketches for many plays and playbills.
Like in other traditional Italian fables, also in “La Capra ballerina” there is a moral: to oppose to prevarication one shouldn’t look intimidated, because force can do nothing against intelligence. In the staging the definition of the animal-characters is of great importance, as each of them originates from a Commedia dell’Arte mask.
